(Hong Kong, 14 Dec 2023) —Genesis Alloys (Ningbo) Ltd, member of Lee Kee Group, and The Ningbo University (NBU) have entered into a strategic collaboration to establish an Applied Technology Research Institute for Advanced Metal Materials. The collaboration will further promote and deepen the thriving partnership and exchange between the industry and academia.
Deputy Dean and Secretary of NBU's Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics, Mr. Wang Zhiteng, hosted the signing ceremony. At the same time, Vice-Chancellor of Ningbo University, Mr. Yao Junming, gave a welcoming speech at the signing ceremony, with Mr. LAU Ming Tak, Terence, Dir, Zhejiang Liaison Unit, The Govt of the HKSAR, Ningbo Zhenhai District local government officials, the management of Lee Kee Groupand NBU’s management and faculty members.
Ningbo University is ranked amongst the top academic institutions in China, with distinguished research capabilities, and has recently achieved remarkable industry-university research cooperation supported by commercialisation experience. Both sides are missioned to foster industry-university collaboration in the application of advanced metals and sustainable development, school-enterprise education, talents exchange, and jointly develop an Applied Technology Research Institute for Advanced Metal Materials to undertake various research and development projects.
Vice-Chancellor of Ningbo University, Mr. Yao Juming, commented, "Advanced metals are essential for daily use. We can see their wide applications, ranging from modern industry to sci-tech development. They are strategic important materials in our economy. The joint research institute will help promote cutting-edge technologies between universities and enterprises in new energy, advanced materials and innovation of non-ferrous materials.
Executive Director of Lee Kee Group, Mr. Patrick Chan, said, "Through Genesis Alloys (Ningbo)'s collaboration with established universities full of young talents, this collaboration between the industry and academia will support the joint development of transformation projects, further elevate the industry's innovation capabilities to support the upgrade and contribute to our nation's high-quality development".
The global industrial and supply chain is undergoing rapid changes, which demands localisation and shorter delivery time. New technologies such as AI and data triggered recent technological shifts and industrial transformations. Matching with industry needs, the newly established Applied Technology Research Institute for Advanced Metal Materials will explore the momentum of metal materials, providing a solid foundation to support the country’s manufacturing industry. Leveraging Hong Kong's unique advantage as the bridge between the mainland and other parts of the world, this strategic cooperation aligned with the national innovation-driven development strategy and will unleash more scientific breakthroughs and commercial opportunities between Ningbo and Hong Kong.
