Among all standard zinc alloys, #2 zinc alloy possesses higher strength and hardness which last over a long period of time. Its good creep resistance (deformation under high temperature and stress) and anti-wear property make it an ideal material for products requiring durability and strong mechanical properties.
The most widely used zinc alloy, #3 maintains a balance of desirable physical and mechanical properties with excellent castability and long-lasting dimensional stability. In addition, #3 is particularly suitable for surface treatment such as electroplating, painting and chromizing.
#4 zinc alloy was first found in Asia. Its copper content is between #3 and #5 zinc alloys, thus enjoying a higher strength yet similar formability as #3. #4 is more effective than #3 in reducing the soldering, or die sticking, during die casting.
Because of an additional 1% copper, #5 zinc alloy has higher hardness and strength than #3 but less ductility which may affect formability. #5 has an excellent castability and a better creep resistance (deformation under high temperature stress). It is also good for electroplating, surface finishing and machining.
#8 zinc alloy is commonly used for high pressure casting. It has higher strength, hardness and creep resistance (deformation under high temperature stress) than #3 and #5. #8 is suitable for electroplating and other surface treatments sharing the same process as that of #5.
#12 zinc alloy is best for gravity casting for sand, permanent mold and graphite mold casting. Good for cold chamber die casting, this alloy has a lower density, superior creep resistance and excellent wear resistance.
Among the standard zinc alloys, #27 is the lightest with the highest strength, hardness, creep resistance, wear resistance and melting point. A cold chamber die casting alloy, it is not recommended for plating.
ACuZinc 5 zinc alloy is also known as zinc-copper-aluminium alloy. Its high copper yet low aluminium composition gives ACuZinc5 better tensile strength, hardness, wear and deformation resistance. It also has outstanding load carrying capacity and bearing characteristics.
